‘™¦ Isiah Thomas might be a laughingstock to much of the nation, but apparently he still is held in high regard in the office of Knicks owner James Dolan. As part of the Knicks’ last-ditch effort to land LeBron James, Thomas, the former coach and president of the Knicks, was sent to Ohio, according to a report in the New York Post (following a mention by radio host Stephen A. Smith). Thomas, now the head coach at Florida International, was credited at Thursday’s press conference introducing Amar’e Stoudemire with helping to lure the Suns free agent to New York.

In The Los Angeles Times, Bill Plaschke writes that “almost overnight, one of basketball’s most likable figures has turned into a complete jerk.” Michael Rosenberg at writes that LeBron took the easy way out.

‘™¦ Dan Wetzel at Yahoo! Sports writes about FIFA’s desire to overhaul the refereeing system in response to criticism of blown calls at the World Cup. Thomas Kaplan in The New York Times has a piece on the move to introduce more stats to soccer.
