It was announced on Thursday that the Warriors have been sold for a record $450 million to Celtics minority partner Joe Lacob and Mandalay Entertainment CEO Peter Guber. Now the team reportedly is looking to add a new coach to the mix.
Reports out of the Bay Area have the new ownership group considering Heat coach Erik Spoelstra to take the reins of the team. Although Spoelstra is currently the coach of the Heat, the rumor has it that Pat Riley is interested in returning to the bench, leaving the door open for the 39-year-old to head west.
His father, Jon Spoelstra, who has served as an NBA executive for teams such as the Nuggets and Nets, currently serves as the chairman of marketing for baseball properties, as part of the Mandalay Group.
While Don Nelson still has one year left on his contract with the Warriors, it is also being reported that he may not begin the year as the coach of the team.
