According to a reports, the Phillies are working on a major deal to land a starting pitcher, and that pitcher might be Astros ace Roy Oswalt. Oswalt, who would have to approve the trade, reportedly would prefer to go to a team in the South or Midwest, but going to Philadelphia would give him a chance to win.
AOL FanHouse quoted a source as describing trade talks as “heavy.”
Oswalt is owed more than $7 million for the rest of this year and $16 million next season, and he has a $16 million option with a $2 million buyout for 2012, causing interest in him to be limited.
According to an ESPN report, the Phillies also reportedly are trying to move outfielder Jayson Werth, which would free up some money to pay someone such as Oswalt.
