| Report: Jets to try out Brunell for backup role | 07.28.10 at 9:01 am ET |
With Mark Sanchez entering his second season under center, the Jets appear to be all set at the starting quarterback position. But they may now be looking for Sanchez’ backup, and, according to the New York Daily News’s Manish Mehta, one of their targets will be Mark Brunell, who will work out for the team on Wednesday. The 39-year-old signal caller served as Drew Brees‘ backup for the Saints last year during their Super Bowl run, and the Jets hope that he can serve as mentor for Sanchez during his sophomore campaign. Brunell has started just once in the last three seasons but has one more start under his belt over the past four years than current Jets backup Kellen Clemens. He hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2005 with the Redskins.
