The first-ever Colonial Clash at Gillette Stadium between the University of New Hampshire and the University of Massachusetts proved to be more of a success than was originally thought, as the first collegiate game ever hosted by the home of the Patriots attracted a CAA-record 32,848 fans to the game. The previous CAA record was set just last weekend at Delaware, when the Blue Hens hosted Rhode Island.
The 65,000-capacity stadium opened up all but two sections on the lower level to accommodate students and general admission fans from both schools, while the club seating above was filled with supporters. Many alums and former athletes made the trip to Foxboro to witness the landmark event in school and stadium history.
After New Hampshire ran away with the victory, both UNH and UMass fans remained behind to watch the Minutemen marching band perform.
