♦ A female Baltimore sports talk radio personality filed an $800,000 defamation lawsuit against a rival radio host for comments that she was unqualified for her job and had “personal, sexual and/or inappropriate relationships” with pro athletes. Jennifer Royle, who left New York’s YES network in 2010 to work for Baltimore cable network MASN and radio station 105.7 “The Fan,” is suing Nestor Aparicio, two of his co-workers and the station Aparicio owns, WNST. Royle said she needed to seek mental health treatment to treat “severe emotional distress” after the comments, including one that “she looks like a stripper.”

♦ Despite its incredible success on the court and with attendance, the UConn women’s basketball team lost $723,900 in fiscal 2010, reports Bloomberg.com. According to financial records of the 53 public schools in the six largest conferences, those women’s programs lost a total of $109.7 million while their male counterparts profited to the tune of $240 million.

♦ Free agent quarterback Chad Pennington tore an anterior cruciate ligament playing pickup basketball and is scheduled to have surgery next week, his agent said. Pennington has played for the Jets and Dolphins, seeing limited action in Miami the past two seasons due to major shoulder problems.

♦ Fans of the Dodgers and Giants engaged in a back and forth in the air Thursday, as rival backers hired plans to tow banners taunting each other during Opening Day at Dodger Stadium.
