WHAT’S HAPPENING LOCALLY THURSDAY:
NHL playoffs: Bruins at Canadiens, 7 p.m. (NESN)
MLB: Red Sox at Angels, 10:05 p.m. (NESN; WEEI)

AROUND THE WEB:

♦ Former Braves pitcher Tom Glavine has shown interest in forming an investment group to purchase the Thrashers. The Billerica native was a standout prep hockey player who was drafted by the Kings but chose a career in baseball instead. Now, he wants to keep hockey in Atlanta, despite the fact that the Thrashers are one of the league’s least valuable teams.

♦ Coach Neil Lennon and two prominent fans of the Scottish Premier League soccer team Celtic were the recipients of parcel bombs that were intercepted and defused by police. Authorities reportedly have focused their investigation on individuals associated with rival Glasgow team Rangers, whose most Protestant fans have long been at odds with the mostly Catholic fans of league rival Celtic.

♦ NFL players and owners might not meet again for a few weeks after their latest mediation session, but when they do, there may be some new faces at the table. That’s because a group of “mid-tier” players apparently feel their voices aren’t being heard and have talked to a Philadelphia law firm about providing representation. At Yahoo! Sports, Dan Wetzel writes that it could be a sign that the players are cracking. Meanwhile, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told Giants fans the league is planning on starting the season on time.

♦ Major League Baseball is taking control of the Dodgers. At Yahoo! Sports, Jason Cole consioders if owner Frank McCourt will put up a fight. In the New York Daily News, Bill Madden wonders if the Mets are next.
