♦ A ticket scalper in Texas filed suit against the Rangers because the team refused to sell him 100 tickets to a Rangers-Yankees game. Michael Melendrez said the team regularly sold him blocks of 100 tickets for $10 apiece, and he resold the tickets for much as $75 each. He is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for fraud and deceptive trade practices.

Jeremy Shockey, the controversial former Giants and Saints tight end who signed with the Panthers in March, recently competed in a 100-mile adventure race in the Scottish Highlands. In the Charlotte Observer, Joseph Person writes about Shockey’s passion and competitive spirit, which the Panthers hope will show through when the 30-year-old takes the field.

♦ British Formula One race car driver Lewis Hamilton apologized for joking that he was being penalized by stewards because he’s black. Hamilton received two penalties in Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix. “I’ll just try and keep my mouth shut and try to enjoy the rest of the season,” he said.
