| Report: Yankees don’t want Francisco Rodriguez | 06.25.11 at 2:02 pm ET |
Don’t expect Francisco Rodriguez to switch boroughs any time soon.
With Raphael Soriano (60-day DL, elbow) and Joba Chamberlain (Tommy John surgery) both out for a considerable amount of time, the Yankees are in the market for some bullpen help but have no interest in the Mets closer, according to a report by Brian Costello of the New York Post.
The biggest issue appears to be money. Rodriguez, who has 20 saves this season, is set to make $11.5 million in 2011 and could make $17.5 million next season if he pitches in more than 55 games this year. He’s just over halfway there at this stage with 28 appearances through 76 games.
A source told Costello that Rodriguez’s off-the-field behavior could also be an issue. The reliever was arrested last August for allegedly assaulting the father of his girlfriend and was suspended by the Mets for the incident.
