Public records indicate Jim Tressel’s previous issues with compliance at Ohio State 07.15.11 at 12:14 pm ET

Records released Friday by OSU after a public-records request showed several compliance issues during Jim Tressel‘s tenure as football coach, including two “unacceptable” ratings from his 2005-06 evaluation, according to an Associated Press report. Tressel resigned from the Buckeyes on May 30 after a Sports Illustrated investigation showed an eight-year history of rules violations.

Although Tressel received an “excellent” rating in 10 of the 12 areas of his 2005-06 evaluation, he received two “unacceptable ratings:” in timely self-reporting of rules violations, and in timely and accurate maintenance of phone and unofficial visit logs.

The records also showed a September 2003 letter from then-athletic directer Andy Geiger telling Tressel to monitor his players’ cars and report anything “unusual.” The NCAA is currently investigating the cars owned by and loaned to Terrelle Pryor.

Other records include:

♦ A letter of reprimand six months into his tenure for illegally giving a Buckeyes jersey to a recruit

♦ A letter of reprimand for allowing an outside person to work with kickers before a full-team practice

♦ A letter of “caution and education” for allowing a player who had not yet filled out his NCAA Drug Testing Consent Form to participate in fall camp for 19 days

OSU will face the NCAA’s committee on infractions on Aug. 12. The school has already vacated all 12 victories of the 2010 season, including their All State Sugar Bowl victory over Arkansas in January 2011. Six players have been suspend (although Pryor opted to leave OSU for the NFL supplemental draft), and OSU has self-imposed a two-year NCAA probation. The NCAA can further penalize OSU or accept those penalties.
