| Steve Williams: Tiger Woods firing ‘came as a shock’ | 07.21.11 at 2:16 pm ET |
Tiger Woods has undoubtedly undergone a lot of changes in the last two years since it seems like his life, both professionally and personally, took a complete 180. He’s no longer married. He’s changed his swing coach. He changed his agency. Then this week, it was announced that he would change caddies too as he fired long-time right-hand man Steve Williams, the man who had been at his side on the golf course since 1999.
On Thursday, Williams, who will now work for Adam Scott, took a chance to give his side of the ordeal on his website. (Side note: if any caddie in this world would have his own website, it’d be Williams.)
“Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change. After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger’s scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for Australian Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis. Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80′s I am excited about the future working for another Australian.”

Steve
Sorry to hear about your recent seperation from Tiger Woods. You deserve better!
You may remember me from Grand Cypress, Paul Celano’s friend or from Larry Ziegler when you were Raymond Floyd’s caddy.
I think you should write a book about your experiences caddying for the major winners. No question it would be a best seller.
Good luck in the future
Ron
