AROUND THE WEB:
♦ Kobe Bryant is talking with a team in China and appears more likely to land there than in Turkey during the NBA lockout, according to a story at Yahoo! Sports. However, in response to interest from NBA players, the Chinese Basketball Association reportedly is planning to institute two rules that would limit an influx of Americans. Bryant, who participated in a celebrity soccer game in Washington hosted by Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra over the weekend, reportedly is not pleased with Turkish team Besiktas making public its negotiations. Bryant last month traveled to China and the Philippines, playing in two exhibition games with other NBA players in the Philippines.
Here’s some video from Sunday’s soccer game, played on a boarded “field.” Bryant shows he can tough to guard in this sport as well.
♦ Controversial Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall announced Sunday that he has borderline personality disorder, with symptoms that include mood instability and problems with self-image and behavior, and that he plans to lobby Congress for research money. “For so long, I’ve been just trying to get help. I’ve been seeking help,” Marshall said. “I’ve been talking with doctors since I’ve been in the NFL. No one has ever helped me. So I was praying there was a treatment out there for what I suffered from and there was.”
♦ The first African team ever to qualify for the Little League World Series was not able to travel to Williamsport, Pa., because the players were denied visas by the U.S. State Department, which said some parents admitted altering birth certificates to make players appear younger than they are. In The New York Times, Paul Post writes about the Ugandans’ triumphs and tragedies.
