| Report: Roy Oswalt to return to Phillies rotation Saturday or Sunday | 08.02.11 at 10:42 am ET |
The best rotation in baseball is set to potentially get even better.
Phillies starting pitcher Roy Oswalt had the final start of his rehab Monday night for Triple-A Lehigh Valley and is now expected to throw a bullpen session with the big club on Thursday before returning to a major league mound either Saturday or Sunday against the Giants, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Oswalt threw six innings in the outing, allowing two runs on seven hits. He totaled 90 pitches (61 strikes) and was consistently hitting the low-90s with his fastball.
Oswalt has not pitched in the big leagues since June 23 due to a back injury but claimed that he had no pain following the Monday start.
Despite Oswalt’s month-plus-long absence, the Phillies continue to lead the majors in starters’ ERA at 3.02 thanks to young fill-ins Kyle Kendrick (5-5, 3.42 ERA) and Vance Worley (7-1, 2.33 ERA) as well as of course All-Stars Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels.
