Jon Pastuszek of Chinese basketball blog NiuBBall.com reported Friday that Zhejiang Guangsha offered the Heat’s Dwyane Wade $2 million a month to join the team when Wade and Chris Paul were in their team’s city of Hangzhou last month during the Jordan Brand China Tour. Pastuszek also wrote that Zhejiang Guangsha is just one of “several teams” offering contracts that large in negotiations with Wade’s and Paul’s agency, CAA.
Wade is not the only NBA player getting big-time offers from China. According to Pastuszek, a report by Chinese magazine Titan revealed that both Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki have been offered $1 million per-month contracts, with one source claiming Nowitzki has been offered as much $1.5 million monthly.
These contracts seem to fly in the face of recent moves by the Chinese Basketball Association to curtail the influx of NBA players into China during the lockout. These moves include banning opt-out clauses and keeping rosters to one NBA player per team.
