| Giants put Carlos Beltran on DL, activate Miguel Tejada | 08.16.11 at 5:40 pm ET |
After missing seven straight games with a wrist injury, Carlos Beltran is headed to the disabled list, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News.
Beltran was acquired from the Mets for top pitching prospect Zach Wheeler on July 28, and was thought to be the missing piece in a weak-hitting Giants lineup. However, since the trade Beltran has just two RBIs and no home runs. In the 11 games he’s played in San Francisco, he’s struck out 11 times. Meanwhile, the Giants are 4-6 in their last 10 games and have fallen 2 1/2 games out of first place in the NL West.
Miguel Tejada has reportedly been activated from the DL to fill the open roster spot. The 37-year-old was recovering from an abdominal strain and has not played since July 18.
