| Report: Twins’ Jason Kubel, Jim Thome claimed off waivers | 08.25.11 at 12:25 pm ET |
According to a tweet from ESPN baseball insider Buster Olney there is a “high expectation among executives” that Twins outfielder Jason Kubel will be claimed off of waivers by a playoff contending team. The teams that Olney named are the Yankees, White Sox, Indians and Rangers.
ESPN then reported that Kubel and Twins slugger Jim Thome had been claimed off waivers but did not specify the teams that put in the claims. If the report is true, the Twins would have 48 hours to work out a deal or pull the players off waivers.
Kubel is hitting .290 with nine home runs and 45 RBIs. Thome, who recently hit his 600th home run, is batting .248 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs.
