AROUND THE WEB:
♦ Ravens rookie wide receiver Tandon Doss might be focused on trying to make the team, but that didn’t stop him from doing his civic duty. A few hours before Thursday’s preseason game against the Redskins, Doss broke up a fight at a restaurant at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Apparently, a man who was fired from a Five Guys restaurant cut a manager with a knife and was beating him up with the aid of a friend before Doss intervened. After Doss tweeted about his actions, someone asked why he risked his health on a game day. Tweeted the Indianapolis native: I’m not gonna sit there and let someone get jumped. [I don't know] where ur from but we don’t do that in Indy. Asked about the incident by reporters after Thursday’s game, Doss stated: “I saw a guy on the ground bleeding, and I saw [another man] on top of him hitting, so I just had to stop him.”
♦ Former Mets and Phillies star Lenny Dykstra, already in trouble for his financial issues, was charged with indecent exposure for allegedly exposing himself to women he met through Craigslist ads for personal assistants or housekeepers. Dykstra, 48, has been in jail since June on car theft and drug possession charges. He also faces bankruptcy fraud charges.
♦ The U.S. championship game in the Little League World Series is scheduled for Friday. In The Los Angeles Times, Diane Pucin looks at how expensive it can be for families of players participating in the tournament. She tells the story of a Mexican player’s father, who is a waiter in the Los Angeles area and received a free plane ticket from patrons of the restaurant where he works.
