The struggling Redskins were dealt a pair of blows after Sunday’s loss to the Panthers when the team learned that running back Tim Hightower will be out for the rest of the season, while wide receiver Santana Moss is expected to miss 5-7 weeks after undergoing hand surgery.

Hightower tore the ACL in his left knee in the third quarter of the 33-20 loss to Carolina. Despite the injury, Hightower gave an emotional speech to his teammates after the game.

“It’s always tough to lose a player like that,” coach Mike Shanahan said, “who leads both on and off the football field.”

Moss was second on the team in receptions. The receiver broke his left  hand in the first half against the Panthers and had three pins inserted in his hand on Monday.

Linebacker London Fletcher also suffered a hamstring injury in the loss on Sunday, an injury that may force Fletcher to miss the first game of his 14-year NFL career. As if that wasn’t enough for the Redskins, recently-benched quarterback Rex Grossman is in the hospital with pneumonia.

Here are more injuries and updates from Week 7 of the NFL season.

• Packers rookie running back Alex Green will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury he suffered in Green Bay’s win over Minnesota Sunday. Green is set to have surgery on the knee, with no timeline set for recovery yet.

• Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is day-to-day with a an ankle injury he suffered in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s loss to the Falcons on Sunday. While coach Jim Schwartz did not go into detail about Stafford’s injury, he hinted that tests have been done on Stafford’s ankle and the results were not too serious.

“If they were, he would be more than day to day,” Schwartz said. “If he had a broken bone, he would be more than day to day.”

• Broncos running back Willis McGahee is out this Sunday against Detroit with a broken finger in his right hand. McGahee will have surgery on the injury later this week. He broke the finger in the third quarter of Denver’s overtime win against Miami this past Sunday.

• Buccaneers running back Earnest Graham is out for the season after tearing the Achilles tendon in his right ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Bears in London.

• Cardinals running back Beanie Wells will not need surgery on his right knee, which he injured on Sunday against the Steelers. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that the knee is stable and it doesn’t appear that Wells will miss the remainder of the season.

• Raiders running back Darren McFadden has a mid-foot sprain heading into Oakland’s bye week. McFadden suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Raiders’ 28-0 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. There is no timetable set on McFadden’s return, with Raiders coach Hue Jackson just saying he hopes he can get the league’s leading rusher back soon.

• Cowboys running back Tashard Choice suffered a partial dislocation of his right shoulder on a play in which he fumbled the ball in Dallas’ win over the Rams on Sunday. While Choice believes he will be ready to play this coming Sunday against the Eagles, his workload may be limited anyway after being surpassed on the depth chart by rookie DeMarco Murray, who ran for a franchise record 253 yards against St. Louis.

• Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings has a bruised hand, which he suffered on his first catch in Green Bay’s win over the Vikings on Sunday. Jennings will not miss any time with the injury.
