| Tim Tebow to remain as starter, for this week | 11.01.11 at 11:24 am ET |
Despite his struggles this past Sunday in a 45-10 loss to the Lions this past Sunday, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow will not be benched just yet, Denver coach John Fox said on Monday.
“For this week, yes,” Fox said when asked if Tebow will be the starter for the Broncos’ game against the Raiders this Sunday.
Tebow was manhandled by the Lions defense, as the second-year quarterback was sacked seven times and completed just 18-39 passes for 172 yards. His only touchdown of the day came in the fourth quarter, when the game was well out of reach.
“I think we definitely need to improve. I think we will,” Tebow said. “Just the timing and getting in and out of the right plays and being more consistent. … Every day I’m just coming in here and trying to get better and improving and whatever they ask I’m going to do.”
The debacle against Detroit came a week after Tebow earned praised for leading a last-minute comeback against the Dolphins in his first start of the season, despite his poor play for most of that game. If Tebow is benched, Kyle Orton could resume his starting role that he recently lost to Tebow, or the Broncos could opt to start Brady Quinn, who has been on the Denver bench since he was acquired the Broncos two years ago.
