| Pistons’ Ben Wallace pleads guilty in DUI case | 11.02.11 at 6:54 am ET |
A felony gun charge against Pistons center Ben Wallace was dropped by prosecutors on Tuesday, after Wallace pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of drunken driving and possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
Wallace’s Escalade was stopped on Sept. 24 in Oakland County’s Bloomfield Township and a breath test showed that his blood-alcohol level was 0.14 percent, which is higher than Michigan’s 0.08 percent legal limit. A search of the car revealed an unloaded handgun, registered to Wallace’s wife, in his backpack. But as part of a plea deal for pleading guilty, the charge of carrying a concealed weapon was dropped.
With no prior record, along with his cooperation with police in the situation, Wallace is expected to go on probation and do some community service, although the maximum penalty is 93 days in jail.
