| Thunder’s Kevin Durant to Germany? | 11.18.11 at 2:38 pm ET |
As the NBA lockout continues to drag on, it’s only a matter of time before the biggest stars in the league try to find a place during the work stoppage rather than risk not playing at all. Thunder forward Kevin Durant is the latest star to be linked to an overseas team, as his agent, Aaron Goodwin, told ESPN.com that negotiations to bring Durant to the German team BBC Bayreuth are “ongoing.”
Earlier this week, Durant told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports that he could sign a contract with an overseas team next week if the lockout is not resolved. Durant said that he was entertaining offers from Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel and Valencia in Spain in addition to BBC Bayreuth.
“I’m right on the fence with playing overseas and I’m about to jump over,” Durant said.
Durant led the NBA in scoring last season for the second straight year with an average of 27.7 points per game. He led the Thunder to the Western Conference finals, where they fell to the eventual NBA champion Mavericks.
Durant is not the only superstar to show interest in playing overseas in the past week. The Heat’s Dwyane Wade told The Associated Press on Thursday that he is ready to start exploring other playing options.
“I told my agent to just take a peek,” Wade said. “It’s time. There’s a possibility that we’re not going to have a season. We’ve got to see what’s out there, what the possibilities are. I want to play competitive basketball this year. I’ve missed a year of basketball in my life before. I’m not trying to miss another. I don’t have too many years of basketball left.”
