Former University of Florida football coach Urban Meyer has denied a report that he agreed to become the next coach of Ohio State, ESPN is reporting.

WKMG-TV in Orlando reported that sources informed the station that Meyer had agreed to a seven-year, $40 million deal to coach the Buckeyes. The report stated that Meyer would be introduced in the coming days.

But ESPN contacted Meyer on Wednesday and the former Gators coach denied WKMG’s report.

“I have not been offered any job nor is there a deal in place,” Meyer said in a statement. “I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my family and will not comment on this any further.”

Meyer coached the Gators to two BCS national championships, in 2006 and 2008, during his five-year career at Florida. After dealing with health issues that nearly forced his resignation after the 2009 season, Meyer ultimately retired following the 2010 campaign, citing both his health and a desire to spend more time with his family.

Recent reports have linked Meyer to Ohio State as a possible coaching candidate. He discussed the possibility of returning to coach with The Gainesville Sun on Monday.

“The concerns are still there,” Meyer said. “No. 1: my health. No. 2: my family. No. 3: the state of college football. I’ve done some research into the second one. I’ve found that it is possible to have balance between your job and your family, that there are coaches out there who are doing it.

“I’m in a good place right now mentally and physically. So if something happens with Ohio State, I’ll have a decision to make. But there has been no interview. There has been no offer to make a decision about.
