Urban Meyer has accepted the football coaching job at Ohio State, according to an ESPN report. Meyer, who stepped down as Florida coach following last season, had been serving as an ESPN analyst this season. He requested off his appearance this past weekend amid rumors that he was headed to Columbus.
A report out of Orlando’s WKMG-TV last week indicated Meyer had agreed to a seven-year, $40 million deal.
Ohio State (6-6, 3-5 Big Ten) was coached on an interim basis by Luke Fickell this season, after Jim Tressel was forced to resign following accusations of misbehavior by players and cover-ups by the coach.
Meyer, an Ohio native who began his coaching career as an Ohio State graduate assistant coach in 1986, won 104 games and two national championships in 10 seasons as head coach at Florida, Utah and Bowling Green.
Meyer, 47, resigned at Florida after the 2010 season, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
