Sports Illustrated selected Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and Tennessee women’s coach Pat Summitt for its top yearly honor, naming them Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.
The coaches will be honored Tuesday night in Manhattan at the magazine’s annual event.
Krzyzewski last month passed former mentor Bob Knight to become the winningest coach in men’s college basketball history. He now has 907 victories and four national titles, including the 2010 crown.
He’s the only coach to lead a team to an NCAA title, world championship and Olympic gold medal.
Summitt has 1,075 career wins in 38 seasons and has captured eight national titles. Every student to play four seasons for her has graduated.
Despite being diagnosed with early onset dementia, Summitt announced in August that she would continue to coach the Volunteers.
