Report: Lakers looking to trade for Dwight Howard, Chris Paul 12.06.11 at 12:57 pm ET
By Justin Doubleday

Despite the NBA lockout not being officially over yet as the two sides put the finishing touches on a new CBA, the trade rumors continue to fly. Now, ESPN’s Chris Broussard is reporting that the Lakers are eyeing a blockbuster trade that would bring both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard to Los Angeles to team up with Kobe Bryant.

According to Broussard, everyone on the Lakers roster other than Bryant is available if a deal to bring both Paul and Howard to L.A. is possible, including Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, and most surprising of all, Pau Gasol. The Lakers have reportedly already been in talks with the Hornets about Paul.

The Lakers are just one year removed from winning back-to-back NBA titles, both championships coming with the core of Bryant, Gasol, Bynum and Odom. But last season ended in disappointment for Los Angeles, as the team was swept by the eventual-NBA champion Mavericks in the second round. Coach Phil Jackson retired after the season. The Lakers hired former Cavaliers coach Mike Brown in May to replace Jackson.

Broussard also reported that the Lakers are not the only team in Los Angeles to be pursuing Paul and Howard. The Clippers are reportedly interested in obtaining both players and have the assets and cap flexibility to do so. The only player the Clippers would not be willing to trade is forward Blake Griffin.
