| Penn State reportedly interested in Eric Mangini | 12.29.11 at 2:17 pm ET |
Former NFL coach Eric Mangini is reported to be a candidate for the job at Penn State. According to a report out of Philadelphia, the school has interest in the former Patriots assistant who went on to become a head coach with the Jets and Browns.
“I know they are very interested on [Mangini], the former NFL coach who has been fired twice in the NFL,” said 97.5 The Phanatic’s Mike Missanelli, who has reported on Penn State for years. “He’s the latest flavor of the month. They will not be able to get a big name given to sustain what is going on.”
Missanelli also reported that former Colts coach Tony Dungy turned down an offer from the school.
Meanwhile, Titans coach Mike Munchak denied for a third time that he will return to his alma mater.
“You all know Penn State means a lot to me. I obviously went to school there and I’m real concerned for what they’ve gone through the last couple of months. I’m flattered that people think I’d be a great fit for the coach there,” Munchak said Wednesday after practice. “They have not contacted me in any way or talked to me about the possibility of working there. I have not reached out to them. I have a job that I enjoy quite a bit.”
Interim Penn State coach Tom Bradley has been interviewed for the position.
