| Amar’e Stoudemire to miss Knicks game after brother’s death | 02.06.12 at 12:54 pm ET |
Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire will miss Monday night’s game against the visiting Jazz following the death of his brother in a car accident. Hazell Stoudemire died early Monday morning after colliding with the rear of a tractor trailer at 1:42 a.m. in Lake Wales, Fla., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Knicks said Stoudemire was traveling to Florida, his home state, to be with his family. No immediate date was set for his return.
“My thoughts and prayers and everything is with him,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. “Whatever time he needs to take, he’ll take. And we’ll get him back as soon as possible.
“I know he’s very close to his brother, so my heart goes out to him. He cherishes his family. He does a great job of maintaining all the relationships. It’s just a trying moment for him.”
