Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady is taking his talents to the Chinese Basketball Association. The 33-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles.
“There are times in life that a new road presents itself and it appears this time has come for me now,” McGrady wrote on his website.
McGrady is well known in China after playing on the Rockets with Yao Ming. His contract is rumored to be worth at least $1 million.
McGrady played in the NBA for the Hawks last season but couldn’t get a contract this season and was considering retiring. The offer from the Chinese team was enough to persuade McGrady to hold off on hanging up the shoes.
McGrady said he is excited to play in China. Last year, Qingdao came in eighth place out of 17 teams in the Chinese Basketball Association.
