Tigers OF Delmon Young pleads guilty to aggravated harrassment

Tigers slugger Delmon Young pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated harassment stemming from an encounter last spring at a New York City hotel where he used an anti-Semitic slur and tackled a man to the ground.

The MVP of the ALCS, Young, who entered free agency following the season, was given 10 days of community service and told to enroll in a program at the Museum of Tolerance New York as part of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office restorative justice program.

The incident occurred when the Tigers were in New York to play the Yankees in April. Young began yelling anti-Jewish slurs at a group of tourists, struggling with them and ultimately tackling one man to the ground.

Young was suspended seven days without pay for the incident and apologized to teammates.

The Tigers have not signed Young and reportedly are prepared to let him sign with another team.
