Right-handed starter Jeremy Guthrie, acquired by the Royals from the Rockies in a midseason trade, signed a three-year deal worth $25 million to remain in Kansas City.
Wrote Guthrie on Twitter: Three more years in Kansas City! I couldn’t be more excited! Thanks to Royals and all the great fans for your support.
Guthrie, 33, went 5-3 with a 3.16 ERA in 14 starts with the Royals, after going 3-9 with a 6.35 ERA in Colorado. He finished strong, going 4-0 with a 2.17 ERA over his last 11 outings.
Guthrie will be paid $5 million next season, $11 million in 2014 and $9 million the year after.
