AROUND THE WEB:
‘¦ Nets forward Reggie Evans became the first NBA player to be fined by the league for flopping when he was hit with a $5,000 penalty Wednesday. Evans picked up his second flopping violation of the season during Tuesday night’s 95-90 loss to the Lakers. His first one came against the Celtics last Thursday in Brooklyn’s 102-97 victory.
Tweeted Evans : Feel like the FEDS looking at the Boi. #iaintlyin!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s the flop against the Lakers.
And here’s his dive vs. the Celtics.
‘¦ As if Marlins ownership isn’t getting enough flak for trading away the majority of its talent, now pitcher Mark Buehrle is taking a parting shot at the team. Buehrle insists he and shortstop Jose Reyes , who both were sent to the Blue Jays, had been told they would not be traded for at least several seasons after they signed long-term deals with the club last year.
“I’m upset with how things turned out in Miami,” Buehrle said in a statement through his agent. “Just like the fans in South Florida, I was lied to on multiple occasions. But I’m putting it behind me and looking forward to moving on with my career.”
Marlins president Larry Beinfest responded by saying that he made no such promise and did not know of anyone else in the front office who did. The team has not given a full no-trade clause since the current ownership team led by Jeffrey Loria took over in 2002.
‘¦ According to a Nielsen survey , more Americans would prefer Tim Tebow as a Thanksgiving dinner guest than President Barack Obama. Tebow was chosen by 23 percent of individuals, while Obama received just 5 percent (although it should be noted that Obama was not on the ballot and had to be written in). Big Bird tied with Tebow.
ON THIS DAY TRIVIA: On Nov. 22, 1979, which Bruin recorded his eighth career hat trick in a 7-4 victory over the Nordiques?
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “We shot 53 percent and the reason we were there is because our offense allowed us to stay there. But to me, that was fools’ gold because the way we were playing defense, you’re not going to get a stop, you’re not going to win a game.” – Celtics coach Doc Rivers , after Wednesday’s 112-100 loss to the Spurs
STAT OF THE DAY: 4 – Consecutive games in which the Celtics have allowed 100 points
‘NET RESULTS: Here’s a clever Christmas-themed commercial for the NBA store.
TRIVIA ANSWER: Jean Ratelle
SOOTHING SOUNDS: Steven Van Zandt turns 62 Thursday.
