The arm injury Curtis Granderson suffered in his first spring training at-bat Sunday when he was hit by a pitch by Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ is expected to sideline the Yankees outfielder until the first week of May.

The injury was initially announced as a bruise, but X-rays revealed a broken bone. The team said Granderson’s timetable for a return is 10 weeks.

“Five pitches in, we get a little setback,” Granderson said. “Now we rest, recovery, get it back, and get ready to play whenever that day comes.”

Granderson led the Yankees with 43 home runs last season.

“Grandy is not a bat you say is easy to replace, but we’re going to have to find a way,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “No one is going to feel sorry for you.”

Brett Gardner is likely to start in center, with Matt Diaz and Juan Rivera battling for the opening in left field.
