AROUND THE WEB:

♦ Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, known as much for his trash-talking ways as for his All-Pro ability, appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” on Thursday and had some harsh words for panelist Skip Bayless.

Sherman had little interest in responding to Bayless’ questions about his claims that he’s better than Jets standout Darrelle Revis. Instead, Sherman launched a series of insults at the veteran talker.

“Skip, whenever you refer to me, whenever you speak to me, whenever you address me, address me as ‘All-Pro Stanford graduate’ because those are some accomplishments you’ll never — you can aspire to, you’ll never accomplish,” Sherman said.

Added the cornerback: “In my 24 years of life, I’m better at life than you.”

And: “I’m intelligent enough and capable enough to understand that you are an ignorant, pompous, egotistical, cretin. I’m going to crush you on here because I’m tired of hearing about it. … I’m tired of your ignorant pollution.”

♦ A Swiss hockey player was paralyzed during a Nationalliga B playoff game this week. Ronny Keller, a 33-year-old defenseman for Olten, was knocked head-first into the boards by Langenthal forward Stefan Schnyder during overtime of their game.

The Puck Daddy blog has a translated quote from the chief physician at the hospital where Keller was taken: “Following the serious injury of the fourth thoracic vertebra, Ronny Keller will be a permanent paraplegic. There is neither head nor brain injuries.”

♦ Brewers general manager Doug Melvin spent three hours in the emergency room Wednesday night after he was stung by a scorpion inside his condominium at spring training in Phoenix. Melvin reached down with a tissue and attempted to pick up what he thought was a spider when he was stung on his left middle finger.

“My arm started swelling and then the numbness started going up my arm, like when you hit your funny bone. I was wondering if it might go all the way up my arm and go to my heart. I got nervous when it got up to my shoulder, so I went to the emergency room,” Melvin said Thursday, upon returning to work. “They gave me [pain medication] and just watched me for a couple of hours. They said your vision can go blurry from that. It was more an education on it, but my arm is still numb.”

ON THIS DAY TRIVIA: On March 8, 1988, the Bruins acquired goalie Andy Moog from the Oilers for which two players?

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “We’re certainly not perfect right now. We’re certainly not firing on all cylinders. I think right now, we’re laboring through it. But, the work ethic was there tonight. The peaks and valleys of a season are pretty obvious that watching us play, nothing is real easy right now. The fact that we’re working through it – if we keep working like that it will come back.” – Bruins coach Claude Julien, following Thursday’s 4-2 victory over the Maple Leafs

STAT OF THE DAY: $25,000 – Fine NASCAR assessed to driver Denny Hamlin for comments criticizing NASCAR’s new cars, a fine the “disrespected” Hamlin said he will not pay

‘NET RESULTS: Texas A&M receiver Ryan Swope joins up with the Dude Perfect crew for a football trick-shot video.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Goalie Bill Ranford and forward Geoff Courtnall

SOOTHING SOUNDS: Worcester native Andy Ross of OK Go was born on this day in 1979. He’s the one in the black jacket.

  1. Jack Says:

Hey Sherman, if you want to be an influence on young kids, learn a little about class first. I pray that Karma blows your knee out you smack-talkin’ p.o.s. In the end, let’s see what your career looks like. P.S. I can’t stand Skip but he handled himself with professionalism and dignity. I doubt that you know the meaning of either.

  2. Ty Says:

The most hilarious thing about Sherman on First Take was that he’s the one who’s arrogant, egotistical, and pompous. Skip Bayless may very well be those things but as Jack said above, he didn’t come off that way on that particular show… not nearly as much as Sherman anyways (“I’m better than YOU”). The guy is so full of himself. I don’t care if he had a great year last season, that’s no way to talk to someone. He has to consistently play great to be considered a great player, never mind the best at his position. Sherman might be an “All-Pro Stanford graduate”, but he’s also an All-Pro asshole.

  3. Inconveen Introofs Says:

Every time he speaks I think less of Stanford. He must have been in the “athletic scholarship” fast track program. What an embarrassing clown this guy is.

  4. Inconveen Introofs Says:

To show how smart he was he quoted Newton’s 2nd law of motion thusly: For every action there’s an equal or greater reaction. yeeah.

  5. Inconveen Introofs Says:

and that is 3rd of course.

  6. Inconveen Introofs Says:

    and still wrong.

  7. Blaze Says:

I wasn’t able to see the whole thing on ESPN, but did he ever mention the Seahawks? When they talk about his goals, it’s all about his personal accomplishments. What about the team? They have a chance to be a great team, the new up-and-comers. This isn’t the way to do it.

  8. JJDavis Says:

CrEEnton? It’s “cretin”, Mr. Stanford smart guy! You are a moron, and a stain on the Stanford program…CrEEnton…lmao…what a complaining tittybaby…obviously has no clue about how hard and long it took Bayliss to get where he is, a guy who has paid hid dues in his business, while Mr. Stanford caught lightning in a bottle and needs to produce at the same level year after year now or risk being seen as a loud mouthed one and done punk…but hey, that’s why they play the game, right?

  9. JJDavis Says:

    sorry for the typo…

  10. Mike Says:

Sorry folks, but I need to see Sherman’s high school and college transcripts, and his SAT’s cause he sounds like he couldn’t pass lunch.

  11. Ryan Says:

Richard Sherman is an absolute jackass. The lasting image of this guy is his ugly, horsemouth face yapping in Brady’s ear after a regular season win. Complete douche! I can’t stand Skip just like the next guy, but this clown goes on national tv and amazingly makes Skip look good! Incredible. And you got to love loud mouth Steven A. Smith being conveniently quiet as his co-host gets crushed. What a puss! He’s nothing but talk and no substance behind it.

  12. shutiggyupdotcom Says:

It’s like Hitler and Stalin – you want to see them destroy each other.

  13. Droofus Says:

It’s like Alien vs. Predator. I can’t tell who to root for here.
