Former Cowboys RB Robert Newhouse dies after battle with heart disease

Robert Newhouse, who played running back for the Cowboys for 12 seasons, died Tuesday after a battle with heart disease. He was 64.

Newhouse died at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He suffered a stroke in 2010.

The running back played in three Super Bowls, with one victory, and ran for 4,784 yards in his NFL career.

Newhouse was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 1972 draft out of the University of Houston, where he ran for a school-record 1,757 yards as a senior. He retired in 1983.

Newhouse is survived by his wife, Nancy, and four children.
