AROUND THE WEB:
♦ Giants quarterback Eli Manning will host “Saturday Night Live” on May 5 after turning down the offer a few times before. He follows in the footsteps of his brother, Peyton, who hosted the show five years ago.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Eli said Monday, as the Giants gathered for their first offseason workout program. “It’s something that’s been offered a few times and I’ve turned it down. But it seemed like the right time. I felt ready to do it and I’m excited about that opportunity.”
Eli said he has no stage experience, although he has appeared in a few commercials since arriving in New York.
“Not much Broadway or acting, so this will be a new experience for me,” he said. “I’m a little nervous about it, but excited also. It should be a lot of fun. It will take some work, but it should be something I’ll always remember.”
♦ The crystal trophy Alabama received for winning the BCS championship game shattered into pieces Saturday when a player’s father tripped and fell into the podium where it was displayed. The $30,000 trophy was on display in the athletic building. A school spokesman said the trophy will be replaced.
“In 2009 and again this season, Alabama did a great job showing the trophy off to fans even after we turned it over to them,” said Charley Green, manager of the coaches’ trophy. “Unfortunately it is fragile, and accidents can happen.”
♦ It being tax season, Real Clear Sports has a list of the top 10 players owners wish they could write off. The list includes Mavericks forward Lamar Odom, Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, Red Sox pitcher John Lackey and, at No. 1, White Sox slugger Adam Dunn.

Bob Nightengale of USAToday.com reports the White Sox and Adam Dunn have agreed to a four-year deal worth $56 million. Dunn has posted impressive power numbers throughout his career and finished the 2010 season with a .260 batting line, 38 home runs and 103 RBIs for the Nationals. Hitter-friendly US Cellular Field should only help improve those numbers. It’s unclear whether Dunn will DH or play first base.

| Olney: Dunn hits waiver wire | 08.03.10 at 3:05 pm ET |
In a series of four tweets (one, two, three and four), ESPN baseball writer Buster Olney reported that Nationals slugger Adam Dunn has hit the waiver wire, giving teams 48 hours to claim him. Olney speculates that several National League teams will put in a claim, essentially blocking American League teams like the Rays, Yankees and White Sox from acquiring Dunn. He names both the Rockies and Giants as potential teams that could make a claim. In any case, if Dunn is to be moved out of Washington, it will happen sometime in the next three days according to Olney.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian reported that the Nationals told him that they will not trade Dunn to the White Sox for newly acquired pitcher Edwin Jackson, formerly of the Diamondbacks.
The Yankees, Rays and White Sox have been rumored to have interest in Dunn, who is hitting .275 with 23 homers, 63 RBI, and a .362 on-base percentage. He is set to become a free agent following the season.

According to multiple reports, the White Sox finalized a deal to acquire Diamondbacks pitcher Edwin Jackson. Chicago reportedly will send right-hander Daniel Hudson and minor league lefty David Holmberg to Arizona for the right-hander who pitched a no-hitter earlier this season.
The White Sox reportedly are considering flipping Jackson to the Nationals for slugger Adam Dunn.

According to a tweet from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Yankees are at least temporarily out of the running for Nationals slugger Adam Dunn.

According to a tweet from Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees “remain interested” in Nationals first baseman Adam Dunn, though Heyman writes that the talks between the clubs have not been serious to this point. With Nick Johnson on the DL (wrist) the Yankees have a need to fill at the DH spot, and Dunn could be a solid fit. Dunn, who has hit at least 38 homers in each of the last six seasons, is fourth in the NL with 23 HRs in 2010.
