| WR Stevie Johnson re-signs with Bills | 03.05.12 at 11:24 am ET |
The Bills announced Monday morning that they signed wide receiver Stevie Johnson to a five-year contract extension. The deal is worth a reported $36.25 million, with $19.5 million guaranteed.
Johnson, who had 76 receptions for 1,004 yards last season, became the first Bill to have back-to-back seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving and became the second Bill to have 75 receptions in back-to-back seasons, with only Eric Moulds doing it previously.
Johnson also made news last season for being penalized twice for excessive touchdown celebrations. When he pulled up his uniform top to reveal a message written on his T-shirt after a TD against the Patriots and was penalized, he was benched by coach Chan Gailey for the rest of the season finale (a 49-21 Pats victory).
Johnson, 25, took to Twitter to announce the deal: Done deal. Lets GOOOOOOO BUFFALO!!!! Fitzmagic better get his mohawk asap. Thanks to Mr Wilson, OBD, & the #BillsMafia.
The deal means Johnson and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will be together for years to come after Fitzpatrick signed a multiyear extension in October. The Bills finished 6-10 last season.
| Bills cornerback Drayton Florence might miss preseason opener with sprained ankle | 08.08.11 at 2:14 pm ET |
Cornerback Drayton Florence left Saturday’s Bills practice with a sprained ankle and is expected to miss the preseason opener Saturday against the Bears.
“He got a sprained ankle when he got down here in the end zone on a catch yesterday and he’ll be out, I don’t know, four days, six days, I don’t know how long,” Bills coach Chan Gailey said. “Every guy is different when it comes to ankles.”
Florence, 30, was the Bills’ big-play defender in 2010. He led the team with 15 defensed passes and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He also forced a fumble, recovered it and returned it for a touchdown. He was second among corners with 58 tackles (49 solo), behind Leodis McKelvin (62 total, 53 solo).
| Chan Gailey says QB Ryan Fitzpatrick may be starter of the future for Bills | 11.25.10 at 10:35 pm ET |
Bills coach Chan Gailey said on Wednesday that Ryan Fitzpatrick may be the quarterback of the future for the team, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported. The Harvard product stepped in earlier this season as the starter after Trent Edwards was benched and eventually released.
Said Gailey: “To be honest with you, that would be kind of dumb not to think that the way the guy has played.”
It was thought that the owners of the Bills would use a high draft pick on a quarterback in the upcoming class, which will feature college stars such as Andrew Luck of Stanford and Jake Locker of Washington. Gailey told reporters on Wednesday that one can’t overlook the success Fitzpatrick has had this season.
| Bills receiver Steve Johnson allegedly fined $5,000 for touchdown celebration | 11.24.10 at 5:33 pm ET |
The Associated Press reports that Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson said the NFL fined him $5,000 for a touchdown celebration after the first of his three touchdown catches in Sunday’s win over the Bengals. Johnson lifted up his jersey, revealing a T-shirt underneath that had “Why so serious?” written in black marker, after his 28-yard touchdown reception.
The Bills receiver, who greatly aided his team in its second win of the season, was allegedly referring to the receiver duo of Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens, who call themselves Batman and Robin.
Johnson said that he learned of the fine on Wednesday through a letter sent to him by the league. The NFL has not yet confirmed the fine.

He has spent time returning kickoffs this season and has 763 yards returning including a 95-yard touchdown.
| Bills moving on without Schobel | 08.02.10 at 10:42 am ET |
After waiting for Aaron Schobel to make a decision on playing another season or retiring, Buffalo is reportedly moving forward without the linebacker, writes Chris Brown of Inside the Bills.
Bills general manager Buddy Nix released a statement Monday morning saying, “Aaron has been contemplating retirement for the past seven months, but we are at the point where we are moving forward and have informed his agent of our plans.”
Schobel has played his entire career with Buffalo after being selected by the Bills in the second round of the 2001 draft. The TCU product has 78 career sacks and had his best season in 2006-07, when he recorded 14 sacks.
| Really??? | 12.15.08 at 11:29 am ET |
The Buffalo Bills have reportedly agreed to a contract extension with their head coach Dick Jauron over the weekend, amid rumors he was gone. And that was BEFORE his inexplicable decision to roll out his quarterback, J.P. Losman, on second and 5, just a first down away from sealing a win over the Jets. This is what they’re saying in Buffalo. The other big league-wide story from Sunday had to do with old friend Walt Coleman. He got the tuck rule right when it mattered but yesterday may not have been one of his finer moments in stripes.
