| Giants release RB Ahmad Bradshaw, DT Chris Canty | 02.07.13 at 8:31 am ET |
One day after releasing linebacker Michael Boley, the Giants continued their salary-cap purge on Wednesday by parting ways with leading rusher Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty.
All three players were keys to the Giants’ Super Bowl championship a year ago, but all three have battled injuries while playing under big contracts.
Bradshaw, just 26, led the team in rushing the past three seasons, amassing 1,015 this past season. But he has been slowed by knee and ankle issues and was scheduled to make $4.25 million in 2013. He leaves New York as the franchise’s sixth-leading rusher with 4,232 yards.
Canty, who joined the Giants in 2009 after playing four seasons for the Cowboys, was slated to make $6.5 million next season. He missed seven games in 2012 with a knee issue. Boley, who played all 16 games in 2012 but was slowed by shoulder and hamstring problems, was pegged to make $4 million.
