‘™¦ The NHL acknowledged Thursday that a linesman missed an offsides call that led to the Flyers’ first goal in Wednesday’s playoff game vs. the Penguins. The goal, scored after Danny Briere took a pass a couple of feet past the blue line and skated in alone on net, started Philadelphia on a comeback from a 3-0 deficit that ended with the Flyers winning in overtime.

“There’s no other way to explain it but a missed call,” NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell told The Canadian Press. “We’re as upset as Pittsburgh, almost. It’s a mistake.”

The call was missed by veteran linesman Tony Sericolo, who had been skating up the ice when he had to turn quickly the other way after the puck changed possession.

“It was a quick turnaround,” Campbell said. “You can see it was a quick 70-foot pass — the lineman was up with the play and then had to move quickly back, and he saw it from the angle he saw it from. But still, his job is to get the right call and he didn’t.”

‘™¦ After saying Wednesday that he thinks players should be compensated for participating in the Olympics, Heat guard Dwyane Wade changed his opinion following some backlash.

“I don not want to be paid to go the Olympics,” he stated, tweeting later that his country “motivates me more than any $$$ amount.”

‘™¦ Moondog, the Cavaliers mascot, was injured before Wednesday night’s game during what was supposed to be a pretend fight with Pacers forward David West. “He jumped at me, and I thought we were playing around. Next thing I know, he went down,” said West, who landed a couple of punches. “It was definitely an accident.”

The individual who performs as Moondog apparent suffered an eye injury, requiring a quick visit to the hospital.

“I felt terrible about that. I really do,” West said. “We were just having fun before the game, just messing around. I really hope he’s OK. Make sure he knows I’m sorry.”

ON THIS DAY TRIVIA: On April 13, 1957, the Celtics won their first championship with a 125-123 double-overtime victory over the St. Louis Hawks in Game 7 of the NBA finals. Which Celtic led the way with 37 points and 23 rebounds in the classic?
