Danny Knobler of cbssportsline.com is reporting that the Detroit Tigers, who lost third baseman Brandon Inge to a broken hand last week, have “some interest” in Mike Lowell.

Lowell is currently in a rehab stint (hip) with Triple-A Pawtucket. He has struggled in 2010 with the Red Sox in a limited role, batting .213 with 2 HRs and 12 RBI in 31 games.

Lowell is owed about $5 million for the rest of the 2010 season, but it is believed that the Red Sox would be willing to pay for some of the remaining salary in a deal.

Bob Klapisch of The Record tweeted that the Yankees will not include Joba Chamberlain in any potential trade for Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Dan Haren.

Earlier reports suggested the Yankees package for Haren would include Chamberlain along with minor-league pitchers Ivan Nova and Zach McAllister.

Chamberlain has struggled mightily in 2010, posting an ERA of 5.66 in 42 appearances out of the bullpen.

On the same night that Dan Haren‘s teammates pranked the pitcher by cleaning out his locker, the Diamondbacks heavily disputed the idea that they were shipping their prized righty to New York.

“We are not close on a deal with the Yankees,” Diamondbacks president/CEO Derrick Hall told Jack Magruder of Fox Sports Arizona on Friday night.

Earlier in the day, a tweet from Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse indicated the Cardinals were out of the running for Haren and Both Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports and Bob Klapisch of NorthJersey.com believed the Yankees are in the lead for the right-hander.

Haren is 7-8 with a 4.60 ERA this season for Arizona.

Peter Gammons told The Big Show on Friday afternoon that a rumored David DeJesus-to-the-Red Sox deal is “out the window.” According to Gammons, the Kansas City outfielder, who injured his thumb crashing into the wall on a play against the Yankees in New York on Thursday night, will be out 4-to-6 weeks with the injury and will have surgery on Monday. It was believed that DeJesus had been one of the biggest outfield targets on the trade market, garnering interest from several contending teams, including the Red Sox. DeJesus was hitting .318 when he was injured.

Multiple outlets are reporting that the Royals are willing to listen to inquiries about righthander Zack Greinke, with Bright House baseball writer Tom Krasniqi indicating that Tampa Bay is “kicking the tires” on the 26-year-old Greinke, who is the defending American League Cy Young Award winner. Greinke is 6-9 with a 3.59 ERA this season with Kansas City.

The Twins and Tigers had been rumored to be potential suitors for the services of Daimondbacks pitcher Dan Haren, but according to a clause in his contract, Haren must approve a trade to either team before a swap can be made, according to a report by FoxSports.com’s Jon Paul Morosi. Haren can list 12 teams on his “no-trade list” and must agree to waive the clause if one of the 12 acquires him. Cincinatti and Tampa Bay are two other destinations on that list. Morosi notes that such clauses tend to be used as bargaining chips, and in the case of Haren, he may use it to get a team to pick up his $15.5 million club option for 2013.

It appears now that Jamie Moyer‘s elbow injury, which could put him on the shelf for the rest of the season, could force the Phillies to make a trade for a starting pitcher almost immediately. The injury is said to be worse than the elbow injury that has put J.A. Happ on the disabled list since April. The team had sent Kyle Kendrick down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley because they had claimed they had a trade in the works, and because of that move along with Moyer’s injury, the Phils now find themselves down two quality starting pitchers. Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt and Diamondbacks pitcher Dan Haren have both been listed as Phillies targets on the trade market.

If things went the way he wanted, Roy Oswalt would be in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform by August 1, according to a report by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. This news from a source who says one team has talked to the Astros about acquiring the righty, who has a no-trade clause, and were told that he would prefer to play for the Cardinals over any other contender. Also, emerging from this report is Houston’s asking price for Oswalt. According to an NL executive, the Astros want “two top prospects, a third minor-league player, and a young player who is ‘major-league ready’” if they’re going to let go out of their star pitcher.

The Diamondbacks appear more and more likely by the day to trade starting pitcher Dan Haren, according to a report by the Arizona Republic. The report notes that just last week Arizona was planning to have Haren in their 2011 rotation, but those plans appear to be changing. The asking price for the ace, whose ERA is a run higher than a year ago but does have similar strikeout and walk totals, will be high though as the D’backs look to fill holes on their MLB roster rather than gather prospects for the future. The Yankees, Twins, Phillies and Cardinals have all been mentioned as teams interested in acquiring the righty.
